Seoul: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in the remote Russian port city of Vladivostok on Saturday morning, where he was shown a nuclear-capable bomber. Kim may fly to Vladivostok during the day to inspect naval vessels in Russia’s Pacific Fleet.
Oleg Kozemyako, the governor of Russia’s Primorsky region, announced Kim’s arrival in the city of Artyom, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) northeast of Vladivostok. The governor released a video on a messaging app, showing a smiling Kim getting off the green-and-yellow train as schoolchildren showered her with flowers.

After arriving in Artyom, Kim arrived at Vladivostok airport, where Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and other military officials showed him bomber aircraft and other warplanes capable of carrying out nuclear attacks. Shoigu also showed Kim Russia’s latest missile ‘Hypersonic Kinjal’, which is launched from MiG-31 fighter aircraft.
North Korea’s official media said in a report on Saturday that Kim was “extremely impressed” after seeing a factory that produces Russia’s advanced warplanes. Kim’s visit follows talks between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Vostok spaceport on Wednesday and his visit to an aircraft manufacturing plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur on Friday.
It is known that Kim arrived in Russia on Tuesday in his armored train. He visited many sites related to weapons and technology. Western countries have imposed many sanctions on Russia and North Korea and isolated them. Experts believe that the two countries are deepening bilateral ties amid rising tensions with America. The US and its allies are concerned that Kim could supply weapons to Moscow in exchange for North Korea receiving advanced technology from Russia amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
