Islamabad High Court has given a big relief to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday. The High Court has accepted the appeal against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif’s conviction in two corruption cases, Al-Azizia and Avenfield, his lawyer said. The decision will allow Nawaz Sharif to challenge his sentence in the High Court, which is pending after he resigned as Prime Minister in 2017, his lawyer informed.

Appeals reinstated against convictions in Al-Azizia and Avenfield corruption cases
Let us tell you that Nawaz Sharif was convicted in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case and sentenced to seven years in prison in December 2018. He was also convicted by the court in the Avenfield property case in July 2018 and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

In December 2020, the High Court declared Nawaz Sharif a fugitive in both the cases. He was arrested and jailed, but was released after posting bail pending his appeal against his conviction. However, Nawaz Sharif’s appeal against his conviction in the Al-Azizia and Avenfield corruption cases has been reinstated.
