However, Hamas has denied that its fighters killed infants during cross-border attacks. Hamas’ health ministry said on Friday that 3,038 children were among the 7,326 people killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza since October 7, in preparation for a widely expected ground offensive. But Israel and the US have said they doubt Hamas’ numbers.

Allegations of the children’s beheadings first appeared in Israeli media reports and were initially supported by Israeli officials, although a spokesman later said they could not be confirmed. US President Joe Biden also mentioned the beheading of the children, but his office later clarified that he had not seen any images. No verified photographs or video footage of beheaded children have surfaced since the Hamas attack.
