The worst film of the year was Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar starrer The Lady Killer. It has a very low rating of 2 (on a scale of 1-10) on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb). This means that it is not only the lowest rated Hindi film of 2023 but also one of the lowest rated films of all time. The film also flopped badly at the box office. Made on a budget of 45 crores, the film was released in only a few theatres. This meant that it sold only about 500 tickets across India and grossed only Rs. Earned more than 1 lakh. This marks a major failure of the film.
Why didn’t Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar promote Lady Killer?
The biggest downside for The Lady Killer was that its stars didn’t promote it. Reportedly because he was angry that the film was being released incomplete. The reason for this strange publishing strategy was contractual obligation. According to some media reports, the time limit for the OTT release of the film (the digital rights of which have already been sold) was by the end of December. This meant that the film was supposed to release in early November. Earnings from digital rights were important to the producers, so they decided to release the unfinished film in a handful of theaters. Due to which the interest of the star cast decreased. Director Ajay Bahl said in an interview that the film was actually released incomplete but retracted his statement a few days later.
