A committee of the Jharkhand Assembly has recommended a 25 per cent hike in the chief minister’s salary and around 31 per cent hike in the salaries of other ministers. A five-member committee was formed to review the salaries and other allowances of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Assembly Speaker, Leader of the Opposition, Chief Whip and Chief Whip. Committee convener and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ramchandra Chandravanshi presented its report in the House during the day on Monday.

The committee has recommended increasing the salary of the Chief Minister from Rs 80,000 per month to Rs 1 lakh per month. Similarly, it has been recommended to increase the salary of ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers from Rs 65,000 per month to Rs 85,000 per month. The committee, in its report, said that since the recommendation to increase the salary and other allowances of MLAs has been sent to the government, it is now necessary for other members to review it.
The committee has proposed to increase the salary of the Assembly Speaker from Rs 78,000 per month to Rs 98,000 per month and that of the Deputy Speaker from Rs 55,000 per month to Rs 75,000 per month. Similarly, the present salary of Leader of Opposition is Rs. 65,000 by increasing Rs. 20,000 is recommended. The salary and allowances of Jharkhand MLAs were last revised in 2017.
