The Madhya Pradesh assembly elections may be over, but the issues surrounding it are still a topic of entertainment for the common man, especially on social media. A video of Ratlam Congress candidate Paras Saklecha is being widely shared on the internet, in which he happily admits to being hit with a chappal by a fakir. Saklecha, who lost elections in 2013 and 2018, went to a fakir on Thursday with new slippers to seek his blessings. In the video, a fakir living in a dargah on Mahu Road is seen hitting former MLA Saklecha first on the head and then on the cheek with a chappal.

According to the video, the old fakir continues to beat Saklecha and Saklecha pleads with him to stop saying ‘enough, enough, done’. Elder Fakir is fondly called Abba by locals. When they offer him a lungi and slippers, the fakir accepts some of them and throws away the rest.
After the beating, Saklecha was heard to say, “If there was any evil shadow over me, it has been removed by Fakir Baba.” Congress candidate is contesting against BJP’s Chetan Kashyap. Saklecha won the Ratlam Assembly seat as an independent candidate in 2008, defeating the then Home Minister Himmat Kothari. However, he lost to Kashyap in the 2013 and 2018 elections.
Although efforts to contact Saklecha and Kashyap were not successful, their acquaintances said they were resting after intense election campaigning. Assembly elections were held in Madhya Pradesh on Friday, with a voter turnout of 76.22 percent, the highest in the state’s history. The counting of votes will take place on December 3.
