Manipur: Amid caste violence, NIA arrests suspected terrorist in ‘international conspiracy’ case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has succeeded in arresting a suspected terrorist. He is accused of allegedly having links with terrorist organizations operating from Myanmar and conspiring to wage war against India by taking advantage of the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur. Regarding this, the NIA spokesperson said that Moirangthem Anand Singh has been arrested from Manipur and brought to New Delhi for questioning.

Moirangthem Anand Singh is among the five accused arrested by the Manipur Police for looting weapons from the police armoury. After his arrest, the majority community of the state started protesting and claimed that he was among the village defense workers.

On Friday, the local court granted bail to the five accused.

However, Singh was arrested soon before he was brought to the national capital and taken to an undisclosed location, the official said.

Singh was arrested in a case related to an ‘international conspiracy’ hatched by the leadership of Myanmar-based terrorist groups to take advantage of the ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur to wage war against the Indian government, the official said.

The NIA registered a suo motu case in New Delhi on July 19 and investigations revealed that a conspiracy was hatched by the banned terror outfit to take advantage of the prevailing unrest in the state to attack security forces and increase its strength through underground operatives, cadres. and recruiting supporters.

Singh was brought to Delhi on Saturday and produced before the concerned court from where he was remanded to five days police custody, the spokesperson said.
