India’s Manu Bhakar secured the 11th quota for the Paris Olympics by finishing fifth in the women’s 25m pistol event at the ongoing Asian Shooting Championships in Changwon, Korea. Manu, who played in the Tokyo Olympics, scored 24 runs in the final and was eliminated after losing in the shoot-off. Iran’s Haniyeh Rostami was second. Chinese shooters took first, third and fourth place.
China could only get one Olympic quota and Haniyeh had already secured the quota, so Manu secured the quota despite finishing fifth. Manu said, “My aim was to achieve the quota as there are very few opportunities left. I am happy that I got the quota but it would have been better to get a medal.” India has so far achieved seven quotas in rifle, two in shotgun and two in pistol.
Manu topped the qualification with 591 marks. India’s Isha Singh is ranked 17th and Ridham Sangwan is ranked 23rd. Manu, Isha and Ridham won the silver medal in the 25m pistol team category. While Divyansh Singh Panwar and Ramita Jindal won silver medal in 10m air rifle mixed team.
In the final, they lost to the Chinese pair by 12. Lost by 16. Simranpreet Kaur Brar won two silver medals in the junior women’s 25m pistol category. She won team silver along with Meghna S and Tejaswini. After this, she finished second in the individual category.
