PAN-BASED LINKING: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had deactivated more than 11 crore PAN cards due to lack of Aadhaar linking. This information was obtained under Right to Information (RTI). In response to an RTI query, a total of 11.5 crore PAN cards were deactivated as they were not linked to Aadhaar cards before the deadline. Let us inform you that the deadline for linking Aadhaar and PAN was completed on June 30.

The RTI reply said – Out of 70.24 crore PAN card holders in India, 57.25 crore have linked their PAN card with Aadhaar. Over 12 crore PAN cards, of which 11.5 crore have been deactivated, aadhar card not connected with However, this PAN card can be reactivated by paying a fine of ₹1,000.

How to link
– Visit the official website of Income Tax Department. This website-
https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/.
– After this click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ section. A new page will open here.
– After this enter PAN and Aadhaar details. Fill the requested information correctly.
– Verify captcha code. After this the link status will appear.
– If there is no link then this step has to go ahead.
-If your PAN and Aadhaar are successfully linked, you will see a confirmation message on the screen. However, you will also have to pay a penalty for delay in linking.
