Kalpana Mohan is also one such name in Hindi cinema, who managed to leave a deep impression on the audience in her short career. Kalpana Mohan did only 11 films in her film career, but based on a few films, she became famous everywhere. He also earned name and fans on the strength of his terrific performance. Kalpana was born on 18 July 1946 in Srinagar and worked in Bollywood for about 10 years. Though her film career was short, she was no less than a threat to contemporary actresses as long as she was a part of Hindi cinema.

Kalpana Mohan’s film ‘Professor’ with Shammi Kapoor is still counted among the best films of the industry. The film’s song ‘Ae Gulbadan’ is still loved even today. The songs of the superhit film were also superhits. Kalpana Mohan became a threat to all actresses when she entered the industry. Apart from being a good actress, she was also a trained Kathak dancer. With the professor’s concession, Kalpana also came into discussion. Then Dev Anand’s imagination also came into view.

Dev Anand signed Kalpana for his film ‘Teen Devis’. The film had actresses like Nanda and Simi Garewal in lead roles with him. This film was also successful at the box office. Kalpana’s father Avni Mohan was a freedom fighter and was also close to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Kalpana was a Kathak dancer so whenever there was an event at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Kalpana was called for a dance performance. Although Kalpana’s real name was Archana, she changed her name before entering films.

Kalpana also replaced Madhubala when she debuted in Bollywood. Professor with Shammi Kapoor proved to be a hit. But, even after this, when the directors once again wanted to pair Shammi with Kalpana, Shammi Kapoor refused. He said Kalpana is crazy. Shammi’s statement had a huge impact on Kalpana’s career. Many big actors refused to work with him. Seeing her declining career, Kalpana also went into depression. Then Sachin Bhowmick entered her life. Kalpana settled down with Sachin and moved away from the film world.

But, Kalpana and Sachin’s marriage did not last long. Within a few years, both got divorced. After this, Kalpana married a Navy officer in 1967. Both also had a daughter. Kalpana said in an interview that her father-in-law was asking her to transfer the bungalow to her husband. When she refused to do so, her second husband also divorced her and they separated in 1972. After this Kalpana moved to Pune with her daughter. Kalpana’s last days were also very painful. In his final days he developed a chest infection and became paralyzed. After fighting this disease for five years, he finally said goodbye to this world in 2012.
