Mysterious tattoo found in 1300-year-old human remains, scientists shocked by discovery

This mysterious tattoo found in Sudan is said to represent Jesus Christ.

Christian tattoos have been found on the body of a man buried 1,300 years ago in Sudan. The owner of the tattoo was buried at Ghazali Monastery, located 9.3 miles (15 km) from the banks of the Nile River in northern Sudan, and was probably one of the monks living in the community. According to a Daily Mail report, Purdue University archaeologists accidentally discovered an ancient Christian tattoo, which shows symbols referring to the name of Jesus Christ.

Dr. Robert Stark (who is leading the bioarchaeological study of the Ghazali remains) told Mail Online that it was a personal tattoo, perhaps symbolizing a spiritual journey.

The tattoo includes a symbol called ‘Christogram’, which combines the Greek letters ‘Chi’ and ‘Ro’ to form a monogram, which is an abbreviation of the name of Jesus Christ. It also includes the letters Alpha and Omega. The first and last letters of the Greek alphabet – according to the belief of Christianity, these are the beginning and the end of all things. Dr. ‘These symbols have long been used as representatives of Christianity, with Alpha and Omega introduced by the Roman Emperor Constantine around 300 AD,’ says Stark.

He continued, ‘The tattoo (rare Christian tattoo) was designed to be understood only by the individual, not to be displayed in public.’
