NEET: Why NTA opened NEET application portal, doubt, now file application in Rajasthan High Court

Read on the application

The process of filing petitions in court regarding the alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam NEET results and allegations of paper leak is on. After the Supreme Court, now a petition has been filed in the Rajasthan High Court regarding the alleged malpractices in NEET. Petitioner Keshav Parekh said that the PIL has been registered and will be heard after the constitution of the vacation bench during the summer holidays. The petitioner has challenged the non-action against the National Testing Agency (NTA) for alleged irregularities, arbitrariness and manipulation in the conduct of NEET UG 2024. The petitioner says that NTA describes itself as the world’s largest and most impartial examination agency, but a large number of students who appeared for NEET have objected to the exam results and its methodology.

Parikh said that NTA initially took online applications for NEET UG 2024 from February 9 to March 9, 2024. After this, for the first time in the history of NEET, NTA reopened the application portal on 8 April 2024, raising doubts. According to the petition, the NEET result was scheduled to be declared on June 14, 2024. But it came as a surprise to the applicant and lakhs of students who appeared in the exam that NTA declared the result 10 days ago on June 4, 2024. The result of NEET came in a way that shocked everyone. 67 candidates topped by securing 720 marks out of 720, which is unprecedented in the history of NEET. 67 students secured rank 1. Apart from this many students have got marks like 718 or 719 which is impossible to get. This raises concerns about the marking system of the exam.

NEET: Supreme Court refuses to cancel NEET exam and ban counselling, notice to NTA

Parik said that out of the 67 toppers, 6 were from the same examination centre, which further strengthens the suspicion of irregularities or possible rigging. He said that the controversy over the 718 and 719 marks awarded by the NTA arose because of the standard NEET marking scheme. NEET carries four marks for each question, one mark is deducted for each wrong answer, thus a total of five marks are deducted for a wrong answer. Apart from this, four marks are deducted if the candidate does not answer any question. Means after 720 marks any student can get only 716 and 715 marks. 718 and 719 marks cannot be obtained.
