Openers from Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin to Shubman Gill were flops in the World Cup final.

New Delhi. Fans reached the stadium from Ahmedabad expecting a thrilling match in the final of the ICC ODI World Cup between India and Australia. Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bowl first. The batting of the Indian team faltered and Team India’s openers proved to be a flop show in the final of the fourth World Cup.

In the ICC ODI World Cup, India played the final against Australia in front of their home crowd. Batting continuously, Team India could score only 240 runs here. India was bowled out by a team for the first time in this tournament. This was the fourth time for Team India that the opener returned from an early exit in the World Cup. Everything changed from the year 1983 to 2023 but the cheap dismissal of the opener did not change.

From Gavaskar to Shubman Gill
In the 1983 World Cup, the Indian team played against the West Indies in the final. In that match, Team India’s opener Sunil Gavaskar could score only 2 runs. In the 2003 World Cup, the Indian team came to play the final against Australia and the great batsman Sachin Tendulkar could score only 4 runs. Opener Virender Sehwag could not even open the account against Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup. Now Shubman Gill returned after scoring only 4 runs against Australia.
