Pakistan captain Babar Azam scored a half-century in the World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan on Monday. He played an innings of 74 runs off 92 balls with the help of 4 fours and one six. This is his second half-century in the current World Cup and the 30th half-century of his overall ODI career. During this innings, Babar broke the records of India’s star batsman Virat Kohli and former West Indies cricketer Viv Richards. In fact, Babar has become the second fastest player to reach 5500 ODI runs.

Babar completed five and a half thousand runs in ODI cricket with his eighth run against Afghanistan. He touched this figure in 110 innings. Whereas, Richards did this in 123 innings and Kohli in 124 innings. The list is topped by former South African batsman Hashim Amla, who has scored 5500 ODI runs in 108 innings. Let us tell you that Babar is the fastest five thousand runs in ODI history. He took this figure in 97 ODI innings. He made this record in his name in May this year.

Talking about the Pakistan vs Afghanistan match, Babar Brigade won the toss and elected to bat at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Pakistan scored 282 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Babar’s innings, one down, ended in the 42nd over. He was caught by Noor Ahmed off Mohammad Nabi. Apart from Babar, opener Abdullah Shafiq (58 off 75 balls) scored a half-century. Vice captain Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed contributed 40 runs each. Saeed Shakeel scored 25 runs and Imam-ul-Haq scored 17 runs.
