New Delhi. Ahead of the Asia Cup 2023, the Pakistan cricket team was considered a strong contender for the tournament. The team was ranked No.1 in ODI rankings and captain Babar Azam is also the No.1 batsman in the world. But the team’s performance in the tournament was not good. After losing to India and Sri Lanka, the Babar-led team could not even make it to the finals. Meanwhile, fast bowlers from Naseem Shah to Haris Rauf were injured. There is little chance of Naseem playing in the World Cup 2023 starting from October 5. After the defeat in the Asia Cup, the problems of the Pakistan Cricket Board are increasing. Chief selector and former captain Inzamam ul Haq has threatened to resign after 2 years.
According to Cricket Pakistan news, Inzamam-ul-Haq himself wants the responsibility of issuing NOCs to players participating in foreign leagues. At present this work is done by PCB. On 7 August, Inzamam was given the responsibility of the chief selector. After this he selected the Pakistan squad for the ODI series against Afghanistan and the Asia Cup. Inzamam had asked PCB for a 3-year contract, his condition has been accepted. He earns around Rs 6 lakh per month. The squad for the World Cup may also be announced soon.
Trouble with foreign leagues
The Pakistan Cricket Board has implemented a new rule with central contracts. According to this the players who get the top contract will be allowed to play in only one foreign league. However, they will continue to play Pakistan Super at home. From Babar Azam to Shaheen Afridi, the new rule will be affected. Apart from The Hundred in England, Shaheen recently signed up for the International T20 League in the UAE. Babar and Mohammad Rizwan are also playing in leagues around the world.
Team India lost 2 Asia Cup finals in Colombo, Sri Lanka won each time, 19 years of waiting
After the poor performance in the Asia Cup, there was news of controversy between the captain Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi. Now the Pakistan team is going to enter the ODI World Cup to be held from October 5. The team will leave for the tournament on September 25. But a poor performance in the Asia Cup and injuries to players have raised concerns for the team management.
