A case of honor killing of an 18-year-old girl by a family has come to light in Pakistan’s Kohistan. The incident happened after a video went viral on social media in which the girl was seen dancing with some boys. The colleagues of the girl seen in the video also escaped being killed due to the timely intervention of the police.

The girl’s family is said to have committed the murder on the orders of a local jirga (traditional council of elders). Another girl seen in the same viral video was also sentenced to death by the jirga, but was rescued by the police before the sentence could be carried out.
The killing of the girl has sparked outrage in Pakistan. Many people are demanding an end to honor killings. Speaking to ARY News, District Police Officer (DPO) Mukhtiyar Tanoli said that the police are investigating the incident. The girl’s family has been arrested.

Another girl in the video said that she had no threat to her life from her family and wanted to go with them, police said.
A senior police officer told Geo TV, “We have started an investigation to find those who killed the girl child and who advised or convened a jirga and awarded her the death penalty.”
