The sword is hanging on Babar Azam’s captaincy

Pakistan captain Babar Azam World Cup 2023 He arrived in Lahore on Monday after the team’s dismal performance and is believed to not resign himself and await the decision of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on the matter. Babar Azam’s family welcomed him at Lahore International Airport. The disappointment of the World Cup failure was evident on his face. Pakistan lost five out of nine matches in the league stage and failed to make it to the semi-finals. According to sources, Babar will meet PCB chief Zaka Ashraf this week and after the meeting will decide on the captaincy of all formats. Along with this, three names have also come forward for the captaincy. And his name is being heavily discussed in the Pakistani media. If Babar’s captaincy goes, only one of these three will become the captain.

Babar was named captain of the limited overs team for the first time in 2019, while in 2021 he also captained the Test team. He led Pakistan in two Asia Cups, two T20 World Cups and the current ODI World Cup, but did not win any titles during this time. After Pakistan’s poor performance in the World Cup, there was a demand to remove Babar from the captaincy. PCB chief Ashraf said that he will take the opinion of former cricketers before taking any decision.
Pakistan is scheduled to tour Australia and New Zealand in December and January. If the PCB changes the captain, it can assign this responsibility to any one of batsman Shan Masood, wicketkeeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi.
