In a one-sided title match, India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to win the Asia Cup for a record eighth time. India have won the tournament seven times in ODI and once in T20 format, while Sri Lanka have won the title five times in ODI and once in T20 tournament. Pakistan team has been champions twice.
In this unique and exciting title match, India not only won the Asia Cup but also created many records. India have achieved the biggest win in terms of balls remaining in any ODI final. In the final of the Asia Cup, India won the match with 263 balls to spare. Earlier this record was in the name of Australia. In 2003, he won the match with 226 balls to spare against England in the tri-series final in Sydney.
Biggest win for India
It is also India’s biggest win with a ball to spare in ODIs. Earlier in 2001, Indian team won the match against Kenya with 231 balls to spare. This is the third time a team has won the ODI title match by 10 wickets. India previously won the Champions Trophy against Zimbabwe in Sharjah in 1998 and Australia won by 10 wickets in the tri-series final against England in 2003.
Sri Lanka’s innings ended on 50 runs
The final match of the Asia Cup 2023 played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo started a bit late due to rain. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat first, but few minutes into the match, hardly anyone could have predicted the fate of Sri Lanka’s innings. Sri Lanka lost 6 wickets for just 12 runs. It looked as if the Sri Lankan innings, which had slipped badly from the start, was helpless to get over itself. Sri Lanka’s innings was bundled out for just 50 runs in just 15 overs and two balls against the lethal and devastating delivery of Mohammad Siraj, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. Mohammad Siraj’s fourth over dealt a blow to Sri Lanka’s innings.
Siraj troubled Lanka with swing bowling
Siraj guided four batsmen to the pavilion in his fourth over with his accurate and controlled swing bowling. Siraj took six wickets and was awarded the player of the tournament. Hardik Pandya also bowled brilliantly and took three wickets. Jasprit Bumrah got that one wicket, starting a painful tale of Sri Lanka’s innings devastation. Only two Sri Lankan batsmen Kusal Mendis (17 runs) and Dushan Hemantha (13 runs) could reach double figures. Five Sri Lankan batsmen could not get out of the circle of zero.
India achieved the target in 37 balls
India easily achieved the target of 51 runs to win on the very first ball of the seventh over i.e. in just 37 balls without losing a single wicket. Opener Shubman Gill scored 27 runs and Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten with 23 runs.
Men’s and women’s cricket teams will be seen in the Asiad
Some changes have been made to the Indian men’s cricket team and women’s team selected for the Asian Games. Akash Deep has been selected in the men’s team in place of the injured Shivam Mavi. Anjali Sarvani is injured in the women’s team. Pooja Vastrakar has been replaced in the team. The Asiad will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8. In the cricket competition, 14 matches will be played in the women’s category and 18 matches in the men’s category. 14 teams are participating in women’s category and 18 teams in men’s category. Women’s team matches will start from 19th and will continue till 28th September. Whereas, the men’s matches will start from September 28 and will continue till October 8. This is the third time cricket has been included in the Asian Games. Earlier in 2010 and 2014, India did not send either its men’s or women’s team to the Asian Games.

Neeraj stood second in the Diamond League

On Saturday, he threw a distance of 83.80 meters in his second attempt during the tournament held in Oregon, USA. This was his best performance. Neeraj could not get past Czech Republic’s Jakob Wadlech. Wadlech finished first in javelin with a distance of 84.24m. Finland’s Oliver Hellander finished third with 83.74m.
