Prime Minister Modi and the President of Iran discussed the ‘difficult situation’ in West Asia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Syed Ibrahim Raisi on Monday exchanged views on the “difficult situation” in the West Asia region and the Israel-Hamas conflict. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) gave this information in a statement. According to the statement, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep concern over “terrorist incidents, violence and deaths of civilians”. In a telephonic conversation with Raisi, Modi reiterated India’s longstanding and consistent stand on the Israel-Palestine issue.

A statement issued by the PMO said the two leaders exchanged views on the “difficult situation” in the West Asia region and the Israel-Hamas conflict. The statement said that Prime Minister Modi expressed deep concern over terrorist incidents, violence and deaths of civilians. On behalf of the Prime Minister’s Office, it is said that the two leaders stressed the need to de-escalate tensions, ensure continued humanitarian assistance and ensure early restoration of peace and stability. The two leaders also reviewed progress in multi-dimensional bilateral cooperation. Modi and Raisi welcomed prioritizing Iran’s Chabahar port to improve regional connectivity. The statement said the two sides agreed to remain in touch keeping in mind common interests in regional peace, security and stability.
