India got off to a strong start against Pakistan after losing the toss in the Asia Cup 2023 Super-4 match on Sunday. Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill shared 121 runs for the first wicket. Rohit played an innings of 56 runs in 49 balls with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes. Similarly, Shubman Gill scored 58 runs in 52 balls with the help of 10 fours. Rohit, popularly known as ‘Hitman’, has created a unique history against Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Afridi.

In fact, Rohit became the first batsman in international cricket to hit a six in the first over of an innings against Shaheen. Rohit did this feat on the last ball of the over. He hits a six towards deep backward square leg. Apart from this, there is one more unwanted record registered in the name of Shaheen. For the first time Shahin has hit 7 boundaries in his first three overs in an ODI match. Rohit hit a six in the first over while Shubham hit three fours each in the third and fifth overs.

Rohit was seen in a different mood on the ground in Colombo. He also faced Pakistan’s spin all-rounder Shadab Khan. Rohit sent the ball over the boundary three times in a row against Shadab in the 13th over. He hit a six off the fourth-fifth ball and a four off the last ball. Rohit hit a six on the first ball of the 15th innings and a four on the second against Shadab. However, Rohit missed out against the spin all-rounder in the 17th over. Shadab got Rohit caught out by Faheem Ashraf on the fourth ball of this over. Shaheen Afridi showed Gill the way to the pavilion in the 18th over.
