Sensex fell 217 points in early trade

Domestic bourses opened lower on Tuesday amid a weaker trend in Asian markets and continued withdrawal of foreign funds. BSE’s 30-share benchmark Sensex was down 216.73 points at 64,741.96 points in early trade. The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was trading down 63.05 points at 19,348.70 points. Among Sensex companies, ICICI Bank, Powergrid, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints and L&T declined.

Shares of Bajaj Finserv, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance and Sun Pharma were among the gainers. In other Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei, China’s Shanghai Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were in losses. American markets closed with marginal gains on Monday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading down 0.49 percent at $84.76 a barrel. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) on Monday invested Rs. 549.37 crore shares were sold.
