Mohammad Shami took a wicket on the very first ball against New Zealand
Shami got a chance in the playing XI in place of Shardul Thakur.
New Delhi. Indian cricket team’s veteran fast bowler Mohammad Shami has achieved a big feat in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against New Zealand. Shami has been included in the playing XI for the first time in the current World Cup. Taking a wicket off the first ball of his first over, he told his captain and team management that he was fully prepared to wreak havoc with his bowling in this big tournament. Shami has broken the record of veteran Anil Kumble.
33-year-old right-arm fast bowler Mohammad Shami has been included in place of Shardul Thakur. Shardul has failed to make an impression in this World Cup so far. In such a situation, the team management gave an opportunity to Shami instead of Shardul against the Kiwi team. Captain Rohit called Shami to bowl in the 9th over of New Zealand’s innings. This Indian bowler clean bowled Kiwi opener Will Young on the very first ball. This is Shami’s 32nd wicket in World Cup history. Shami has crossed this milestone in 12 innings. In the meantime, he broke the record of former leg-spinner Anil Kumble. Kumble took 31 wickets in 18 innings.

Shami got a chance to replace Shardul
Earlier, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited New Zealand to bat first at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. Team India has made two changes in the playing eleven. Suryakumar Yadav has got a chance to replace injured all-rounder Hardik Pandya, while Shami has got a chance in the playing XI in place of Shardul Thakur. Shami played his last ODI international in the 3-match ODI series against Australia last month in September.
