South Africa beat India by an innings margin in the first Test
New Delhi. The South African cricket team who defeated the Indian cricket team by an innings and 32 runs in the Centurion Test has received a big blow. The team’s regular captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the second and final Test match of the series against India. After Bavuma was injured on the first day of the Centurion Test, Dean Elgar took over as acting captain in that match. ICC has confirmed the exclusion of Temba Bavuma from the series. Dean Elgar will replace Bavuma to captain South Africa in the second Test match as well. Elgar is playing his farewell Test series against India. The second and final Test match of the series between India and South Africa will be played in Cape Town from January 3.
Cricket South Africa has named Zubair Hamza in place of Temba Bavuma in the Test squad for the second Test against India (IND vs SA) to be played at Newlands, Cape Town from January 3. Bavuma has a hamstring strain. Bavuma was injured in the 20th over while fielding on the first day of the Centurion Test against India. After which he was taken to the hospital for a scan. Bavuma could not even come to the crease to bat in South Africa’s first innings. South Africa beat India in the first Test match without Bavuma.

Temba Bavuma troubled by injury
Temba Bavuma has had a tough time with injuries. Earlier he was injured in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan. Bavuma did not play in the recent ODI and T20 series against India. He was left out of the limited overs series. Questions are being raised on Bavuma’s poor fitness. Veteran cricketers are talking all kinds of things about his fitness. Former South African opener Herschel Gibbs has called him an overweight player.
Dean Elgar played an innings of 185 runs
Dean Elgar was instrumental in helping South Africa win the first Test match. He scored 185 in the first innings, his second highest score in Test cricket. Elgar has already announced before the Test series that he will play the last Test series of his career against India. He was adjudged player of the match for his brilliant innings.
