South Africa Test series India’s chance to atone for WC loss: Gavaskar

Highlights

India have won only four out of 23 Tests in South Africa
No Test series has been won at this ground so far
The two-Test series will begin on December 26.

New Delhi. The Indian team is currently on a tour of South Africa (India Vs South Africa) for a three-match T20, three-match ODI and two-test series. The tour began with a T20 series. The first match between the two countries on December 10 was washed out due to rain. The other two matches of the series will be played on December 12 (Tuesday) and December 14. Then the ODI series will start from December 17 and the Test series from December 26.

The Test series is considered very important for the Indian team, the reason being that Team India has not won any Test series in South Africa till now. Former Indian captain and legendary opening batsman Sunil Gavaskar believes that the Test series will be a good opportunity for Rohit Sharma and his team (Team India) to make up for the World Cup 2023 loss.

Why Yuvraj Singh could not become captain from vice captain, explained himself

Speaking to Star Sports, Gavaskar explained the reason behind it, saying, ‘Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been at their peak for the last seven-eight months. I believe that Indian team captain Rohit Sharma’s role will be very important from Test point of view. It will be an important responsibility on Rohit not to put pressure on the players coming in to bat after him i.e. number three, four and five. All in all, Rohit has a chance to make up for the loss in the World Cup final. Let us tell you that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not included in the T20 and ODI squads. Both these players will join the Indian team before the Test series.

After the loss against PAK, India made a strong comeback, winning the 50 over game in 43 balls.

India can be expected to perform well in the Test series as key fast bowlers like Enrique Norcia and Lungi Ngidi are currently out of the South African squad. Ngidi’s injury is currently being monitored and the status of his availability will be clear after the ODI series. The Indian team has played 23 Test matches in South Africa so far, winning four and losing 12. Seven Test draws are over. Talking about the overall test matches, so far the two teams have competed in 42 tests in which the Indian team has won 15 and lost 17. 10 Tests have been drawn with no win or loss decided.
