Delhi University will now take on administrative and social responsibilities in addition to the academic responsibilities of students with disabilities. Under the DU Foundation, apart from allotting free education and seats to orphan students, there is a plan to temporarily allot girl students, teachers or four rooms in hostels for indigent students.
DU Foundation Chief Executive Officer Prof. Anil Kumar said that apart from education, the university is also going to fulfill other social responsibilities with the help of alumni and teachers. Efforts are being made to ensure that students do not face any problem due to lack of funds.
He said that DU has reserved seats for orphan students. Dr. Manjari Fernandes, a retired teacher of Janaki Devi Memorial College, has contacted and requested to provide temporary shelter to destitute women. Four rooms will be made in the hostel. For this he has given a grant of 22 lakh rupees. It may be noted that DU is constructing a hostel for girl students at a cost of Rs 161 crore in the Dhaka campus. Besides this, another hostel is being constructed at a cost of 289.61 crores. It will have more than a thousand beds for students.
One thousand laptops will be distributed
Chief Executive Officer Prof. Anil Kumar said that the DU Foundation is bringing Shaktka Beti Yojana. Under this, families whose income is Rs. Laptops will be given to orphan girls and daughters whose income is less than 6 lakhs. In the first phase, it is planned to provide one thousand laptops, the estimated cost of which will be Rs 5 crore. For this, alumni and senior officials of various companies have been met. It is getting very positive results. Hopefully once we get the funding we will be able to complete it. So far the foundation has collected 1 crore 28 lakh rupees.
28 lakh rupees received for ambulance
Prof. Anil Kumar said that the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has given an amount of Rs 28 lakh for a modern ambulance. Soon the foundation will buy an ambulance.
