Jeram Valley attack: Supreme Court rejects NIA’s plea against Chhattisgarh Police’s FIR

In the case of the killing of Congress leaders in Bastar, Chhattisgarh in the year 2013, the NIA has received a blow from the Supreme Court. The court has said that the case will continue on charges of a major political conspiracy in the Maoist attack. NIA plea against fresh FIR registered by Chhattisgarh Police in 2020 has been dismissed. The Supreme Court said that we will not interfere in this matter.

The Supreme Court was hearing a plea against the state government’s order to have the state police investigate the deaths of 27 Congress leaders despite the NIA investigating the 2013 Maoist attack in Sukmani Khiram valley. The NIA has been investigating the case since 2013. 39 people have been made accused in this case and 2 charge sheets have been filed against them.
Let us tell you that this attack took place during the then government of Raman Singh and the Maoists wiped out the entire state leadership of the Congress. 29 people, including Congress state president Nand Kumar Patel, former opposition leader Mahendra Karma and former Union minister Vidya Charan Shukla, were killed in a Naxalite attack on March 25, 2013, in Khiram Ghati, Darbha area of Bastar district.
