New Delhi. The Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday hinted that Babar Azam may lose the captaincy if the Pakistan team fails in the ongoing World Cup. To survive in the World Cup, Pakistan will have to beat South Africa at any cost in a crucial match in Chennai on Friday. If he loses, all his hopes of making it to the semifinals are over. The team has managed to win only 2 out of 5 matches played so far. The team has scored a hat-trick of defeats. First he lost against Team India. After this, Australia and Afghanistan also defeated Pakistan.
The PCB said in a statement, “As far as Captain Babar Azam and Team Management are concerned about the media criticism, we agree with the former cricketers that success and failure are part of the game.” Captain Babar Azam and Chief Selector Inzamam ul Haq were given complete freedom to prepare the team for the ICC World Cup 2023. The statement further said that the board will take further decisions in view of the team’s performance in the World Cup which will be in the interest of Pakistan cricket. At this time, PCB requests fans, ex -players and related parties to stand up with the team.
Will only be the test captain
Pakistan have 4 points in 5 matches to face three consecutive defeats. Babar Azam has been caught up with the demand for Azam to be removed from the captaincy after an 8 -wicket defeat against Afghanistan. According to the news agency PTI, a source said that Babar’s captaincy would survive only if Pakistan wins all the remaining matches and entered the World Cup semifinal. However, it can only be kept as a test captain.
