An account of all ODI World Cup finals so far

1987- Australian captain Allan Border was carried on his shoulders by his team at Eden Gardens. For the first time, the World Cup was 50 overs per team instead of 60. Chetan Sharma scored a hat-trick against New Zealand in the group stage. Many of the matches in the group stage were very close. Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 15 runs, Australia beat India by one run, New Zealand beat Zimbabwe by three runs.

1999Australia defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the final. In the final, Shane Warne took four wickets and the Pakistani team was bowled out for 132 runs. Australia had achieved the target in 20 overs. Australia won the World Cup for the first time since 1987.

2003- Australia defeated India by 125 runs in the final. Unbeaten throughout the tournament, the Australian team won the title by defeating the Sourav Ganguly-led Indian team in a one-sided match in the final.

2007- Australia defeated Sri Lanka by 53 runs. Australia won their third consecutive title in a rain-interrupted final in Barbados. Adam Gilchrist scored 149 which is the highest score in a World Cup final.

2015- Australia defeated New Zealand by seven wickets in the final. Brendon McCullum’s aggressive batting saw New Zealand reach their first ever World Cup final, but Mitchell Starc’s yorker on the third ball made New Zealand’s defeat almost certain.

2023– India performed brilliantly in the league stage of the tournament. Team India went undefeated throughout the league stage and the team beat New Zealand in the semi-finals. On the other hand, it was the Australian team that lost two matches in a row in the World Cup. But after this he made a brilliant comeback. Australia defeated India by 6 wickets in the final.
