Giving this information to reporters, CCPA president Nidhi Khare said that out of the 20 institutes, three institutes – Rouse IAS Study Circle, Chahal Academy and IQRA IAS – have been fined Rs 1 lakh each. However, the Rouse IAS Study Circle has filed an appeal with the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) against the penalty order.
IAS Baba, the coaching institute that received the notice from the CCPA, has taken a stay against it. Khare said that Vajirao & Reddy Institute, Chahal Academy, Khan Study Group IAS, APTI Plus, Analog IAS, Shankar IAS, Shriram IAS, Byju IAS, Unacademy, Next IAS, Drishti IAS, IQRA IAS, Vision IAS, IAS Baba, Yojana Notification issued to IAS, Plutus IAS, ALS IAS, Rouse IAS Study Circle.
Khare said, “Over the past one and a half years, coaching institutes have been served with notices for deliberately hiding important information about successful students. We have imposed penalties on four centres, while other cases are under investigation.”Usually, after the announcement of UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exam results, many coaching institutes go for advertisements. He said that an average of 900 students clear the UPSC exam every year out of over 10 lakh students.
The official said that a total of 933 names of candidates were recommended after the UPSC final results in 2022. However, the number of students that the 20 institutes claimed to have selected was significantly higher than the UPSC recommendations.
He said that many coaching institutes deliberately hide important information and claim to be the same rank holder as their student. He said that the successful candidate has taken coaching in many institutes for various subjects and prelims or mains exam.
Khare said that these institutes did not clearly state which courses the students were studying in the institute. According to CCPA, the current revenue of the coaching industry in India is approximately Rs. 58,088 crores. Around two lakh students go to Kota in Rajasthan every year to prepare for engineering and medical entrance exams. While Delhi is considered as the center of coaching for UPSC Civil Services Examination.
