A case of sub-form JN.1 of Kovid-19 has come to light

A case of sub-form JN.1 of Kovid-19 has been reported in Kerala. ICMR Director General Dr. Rajiv Bahl gave this information. The case was detected on 8 December 2023 in an RT-PCR positive sample from Karakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The sample tested RT-PCR positive on 18 November 2023. According to the information, RT-PCR test was done on the sample of a 79-year-old woman, who was found to be infected. The woman had mild symptoms of influenza-like illness (ILI) and has recovered from Covid-19.

Sources said that currently more than 90 percent of Kovid-19 cases in the country are not serious and infected people are living in isolation in their homes. Earlier, JN.1 infection was detected in an Indian tourist in Singapore. The man hails from Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu and went to Singapore on October 25.
Although cases of JN.1 infection have been reported in Tiruchirappalli district or other places in Tamil Nadu, there has been no increase in cases. “No other case of the JN.1 variant has been reported in India,” the source said.
A subform of Covid-19, JN.1, was first identified in Luxembourg. This infection, which has spread to many countries, belongs to the Pirolo form (BA.2.86).
The Union Health Ministry is in regular touch with the Kerala State Health Department and monitoring the various points of entry.
