Ahead of the first match of the World Cup 2023 to be held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, news of a major tragedy is coming to the fore. According to the Times of India news, a part of the outer wall of the stadium collapsed after colliding with an earth moving machine. However, Cricket Association of Bengal officials said that the accident occurred during repair work and efforts were being made to repair the damaged area as soon as possible. The section of wall that collapsed is between Gates 3 and 4 and is close to one of the stadium’s floodlight towers.

The first match of World Cup 2023 will be played between Netherlands and Bangladesh at Eden Gardens on Saturday. After this, the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be played on Tuesday. India will face South Africa on November 5 while England will face Pakistan on November 11. The semi-final match will be played at Eden Gardens on November 16.
