Rita was identified by her distinctive flower tattoo featured in a BBC crime report. When his family filed a missing complaint. He was unaware of the incident that happened years ago. An article about Rita was published this year that included a picture of her tattoo.

His tattoo featured a black rose with green leaves and ‘R’Nik’ underneath. A member of Rita’s family saw the article and identified her. Family members then went to Belgium to work with the police and Rita was officially identified.
In February of the year she died, Rita traveled from her home in Cardiff to Antwerp, Belgium. In May, a month after he sent his last postcard to his family, his body was found lying against a fence in the river Groote Schijn.
