With the ICC ODI World 2023 over, East South African batsman AB de Villiers has chosen his favorite team of the tournament. Among the 11 players he has included in the squad are five Indians including Virat Kohli. However, de Villiers cut off India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah took 20 wickets in the World Cup. He finished fourth in the list of bowlers who took the most wickets in the tournament.
De Villiers chose Australia’s Travis Head and India’s captain Rohit Sharma as opening batsmen. Head scored 329 runs in 6 matches. He played an important role in making Australia champions by playing an innings of 137 runs against India in the final. In the final, India lost by 6 wickets. At the same time, Rohit scored 597 runs in 11 matches. He is the second highest run scorer. De Villiers kept Kohli at number three, who scored the most runs in the tournament (765 in 11 matches).
Kohli scored a historic century in the semi-final and a half-century in the final against New Zealand. He is the only player to score 50 ODI centuries. He is followed by young New Zealand batsman Rachin Ravindra, who scored 578 runs. Shreyas Iyer (530) is in the middle order. Kangaroos all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (400) is sixth in De Villiers’ team. Maxwell scored a storming century and a double century. He also took 6 wickets. After that comes spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s number. Jadeja scored 120 runs besides taking 16 wickets.
Australian spin Adam Zampa is ranked eighth. Jamba is the second most dismissed bowler in the tournament. He took 23 wickets in 11 matches. De Villiers had Gerald Coetzee (20 wickets in 8 matches), Dilshan Madushanka (21 wickets in 9 matches) and Mohammed Shami (24 wickets in 6 matches) as fast bowlers. Coetzee of South Africa was fifth and Madushanka of Sri Lanka was third in terms of taking the most wickets. India’s powerful fast bowler Shami tops the list.
