New Delhi. Afghanistan has created history in the World Cup by winning against the Pakistan cricket team. In just 10 days, the Afghan team created an upset in the ICC ODI World Cup by defeating two big ranked teams. First defeated the world champion England and then Pakistan team. After this match, there was a big upheaval in the points table.
Sunday October 23 became a big memorable day not only for the ICC ODI World Cup but also for the history of Afghanistan cricket. The team registered their first victory in the One Day International against Pakistan. After winning the toss, Babar Azam decided to bat first against Afghanistan.
Captain Babar along with Abdullah Shafique played a vital role in taking the team to 282 runs by playing a half-century innings. Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmed took 3 wickets on his World Cup debut. Chasing the target, Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz laid the foundation for the win with an explosive opening and Rahmat Shah along with captain Hashmatullah led the team to victory. The team created history by registering a win with the loss of 2 wickets in 49 overs.
Reversal in points table
Afghanistan has taken a big leap in the points table after defeating the Pakistan team in the World Cup. The 10th-ranked team has grabbed the sixth straight position. Although Pakistan team is in fifth place but England has reached the bottom. Indian team is at the top with 5 out of 5 wins, while New Zealand team is second and South African team is third. After winning two matches in a row, Australia has now reached the fourth position.
