Chandigarh: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday inaugurated 124 schools across the state under the first phase of the ‘Pradhanmantri School for Rising India’ (PM-SHRI) scheme. Speaking at an event organized by the School Education Department of Haryana in Rohtak, Pradhan said that the schools under the Prime Minister’s School for Rising India (PM-SHRI) program will epitomize excellence with modern 21st century education.

The Union Minister expressed confidence that the opening of schools under PM-Shri Yojana will increase the capacity of school education in Haryana and the children of the state will benefit from this initiative. According to an official statement, he also appreciated the outstanding efforts made by Haryana in the field of education and highlighted that the state is emerging as a leader in the field of education in the country.
Pradhan mentioned promotion of skill and technology based education and emphasis on mother tongue in the new education policy. He also praised the achievements of Haryana athletes in the recently held Asian Games in China. Khattar said that in an effort to improve the quality of education in the state, 124 schools have been inaugurated under the PM-Shri Yojana in the first phase. He said that 128 more schools would be started in the second phase.
Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal said that the central government has allocated Rs 85 crore for setting up 124 schools under the scheme in the first phase. Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) scheme aims to provide quality education for the cognitive development of students and create holistic and well-equipped individuals equipped with key 21st century skills.
PM-Shri is a centrally sponsored scheme that aims to develop more than 14,500 schools across the country by strengthening the existing government-run selective schools. Khattar announced that 4,000 playway schools established in the state would now be recognized as ‘Baal Vatika’ schools. He said that the government plans to set up the same number of additional schools in the future as well. He said that Anganwadi Centers have been converted into schools so that children can get education including sports.
