After qualifying the Civil Service Examination (CSE) examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), candidates are appointed to Indian Police Service (IPS) posts according to their rank. To become an IPS officer, one has to undergo rigorous training, for which they also have to pass physical and medical exams.
let me tell you, IAS Physical examination is not required to become an officer, but height and weight of candidates are considered for IPS recruitment.
A candidate does not become an IPS just because his name appears in the final list of UPSC, but he has to complete a very challenging training. After the foundation course at LBSNAA, candidates selected for the IPS post are sent to National Police Academy Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVPNPA), Hyderabad, where their rigorous training begins. During training they mainly become physically and mentally strong.
Let us tell you that the main job of an IPS officer is to maintain law and order. IPS posts ensure that there is no theft, robbery or any criminal activities where they are posted. In such a situation, their schedule during training is very strict and challenging. The weight rules for becoming a police officer in the Indian Police Service are not clearly defined. However, it is necessary for the officers to be fit.
IPS Physical Fitness Criteria
As per the physical fitness criteria for IPS, the minimum IPS height of a female (normal category) should be 150 cm.
In case of ST and Gorkha, Garhwali, Assamese, Kumaoni, Nagaland tribal and other caste applicants the height requirement for women is relaxed up to 145 cm. On the other hand, the minimum IPS height should be 165 cm for male candidates, and 160 cm for ST (except SC/OBC).
