Amid internal turmoil in the Janata Dal United (JDU), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is eyeing the JDU’s highly backward vote bank. According to sources, the BJP has chalked out a strategy and formed a committee to target the JDU’s extremely backward vote bank. The task of this committee is to bring into its fold the leaders of the most backward classes of JDU and other parties. Former president Sanjay Jaiswal, Mangal Pandey, Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Thakur and Naveen Nitin have been included in the committee. As in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP wants to bring together prominent leaders from various castes from the most backward classes.

According to reports, this BJP committee will approach JDU’s backward class leaders who have mass base and efforts will be made to bring them to BJP. OBCs and extremely backward classes constitute more than 55 percent of the population in Bihar. Nitish Kumar has built a vote bank of extremely backward and Mahadalit. But BJP is busy making holes in it.
Former minister of Chandravanshi community Bhim Singh has joined BJP. Suheli Mehta and Pramod Chandravanshi have also joined the BJP. The Chandravanshi community is claimed to constitute about seven percent of the population in Bihar.
Even the most backward people have been given a place in the team of Bihar BJP President Samrat Chaudhary. Samrat Chaudhary himself comes from a backward class. After the caste survey figures came out in Bihar, every party is keeping an eye on the most backward castes.
Nitish Kumar increased reservation for EBC category from 18 percent to 25 percent. While BJP is talking about increasing it to 30 percent.
On the other hand, Lalan Singh has resigned from the post of JDU president. The party has also accepted Lalan Singh’s resignation. Senior party leader KC Tyagi said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been selected as the party president in JDU’s national executive meeting.
