In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 18 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state. During the preparatory programs for the rally, Majumdar emphasized that the rally was a public protest against the growing corruption of Trinamool leaders and ministers since 2011, their involvement in scams and the arrest of several ruling party leaders and ministers in corruption cases. Reflects anger.
Despite the TMC’s efforts to disrupt the rally, BJP leader Subhendu Adhikari confirmed that the Calcutta High Court had dismissed those petitions. He said, “Trinamool’s move to stop Shah’s rally on November 29 was not successful. The Calcutta High Court rejected their arguments. Supporters and activists have started gathering for the event.
BJP sources said Shah will arrive at the city’s airport on Wednesday afternoon, go to the ground by helicopter and then proceed to the rally venue in a convoy. Shah is likely to leave here on the same day. The state administration had initially opposed the BJP’s rally at the same venue where Trinamool organizes its ‘Shaheed’ rally on July 21 every year. However, a single bench and a division bench of the Calcutta High Court allowed the BJP’s programme. TMC leader and minister Firhad Hakim said, ‘Why should we be afraid of Amit Shah’s visit? Is Gabbar Singh (character from movie Sholay) coming to Kolkata?
Hakeem dismissed concerns that the rally would affect the party’s strongholds and said the BJP’s campaign during the 2021 Assembly polls has not yielded any concrete results. Shah’s visit to West Bengal comes at a time when the party is emphasizing on strengthening its organizational machinery in the state ahead of the parliamentary elections.
The BJP’s state unit has faced challenges in keeping its leaders united following defection, especially after former Union minister Babul Supriyo, party MP Arjun Singh and six MLAs joined the TMC. Mamata Banerjee’s TMC-led Trinamool Congress won the state in 2021. For the third consecutive time, won 213 seats.
