UPSC Success Story: It was nothing less than a dream come true for Manoj Thakur, a farmer from Madhubani district, when his son Mukund Kumar secured 54th rank in his first attempt in the UPSC Civil Services Examination- 2019. When the result was announced, there was a wave of happiness everywhere. Let’s know about IAS officer Mukund Kumar, how he prepared.

Mukund, who holds an English Honors degree from Delhi University, completed his schooling from Osiya Sarada Vidyalaya, Rajnagar, Madhubani district. From the beginning he thought of doing well in studies and doing something good for his future.

In the year 2006, he took the entrance exam for Sainik School, Goalpara in Assam and was successful. After which he completed his 12th standard from Sainik School in 2012 and then took admission in English Honors course from Delhi University for graduation. After coming to Delhi, he came to know about the UPSC exam. He was very impressed with this test.

Let us tell you that Mukund was gifted in studies right from the beginning. During the UPSC examination in the year 2020, he also cleared the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) 64th Combined Competitive Mains Examination, apart from this he also wrote papers for the 65th BPSC Preliminary Examination.

Mukund belongs to a middle class family, so he was looking for an affordable coaching center for UPSC preparation. He knew that UPSC coaching centers in Delhi are very expensive, so finding an affordable coaching center is difficult, but he didn’t give up.

After a lot of searching, he found a coaching center whose fees were low. However, it was a coaching center where not a single candidate preparing for UPSC was successful in the prelims exam. Ignoring these things, Mukund took admission there. When the results were announced, no one could believe that he had cleared the prelims.

Let us tell you that in the year 2019, Mukund appeared for the exam and at the age of just 22, he cleared the tough exam like UPSC in the first attempt. Mukund says that candidates should have complete knowledge of the syllabus before preparing for the UPSC exam.

Mostly it is seen that people have given UPSC exam two to four times, but they don’t have complete knowledge about the exam syllabus. Secondly, he said that when you prepare for UPSC, you should have a proper purpose for it because when one intends to do any work he understands the depth of that exam well.
