Mumbai: Many successful South films including Rowdy Rathore, Wanted, Kabir Singh, Hera-Pheri, Vikram-Vedha, Singham and Dristham have been remade in Bollywood. However, Bollywood is not the only one ahead in the remake race, Tollywood is also competing with Bollywood in this regard. There have also been remakes of many blockbuster Hindi films in the South. One of these is the 1972 film with 3 superstars, which has been remade in South. The film featured superstars like Dharmendra, Hema Malini and Sanjeev Kumar. If you still don’t understand which film we are talking about here, let us tell you that it is the 1972 film ‘Sita Aur Geeta’, which featured Hema Malini in a double role.
After seeing the success of Sita Aur Geeta which was released in 1972 at the box office, Tollywood also decided to make a similar film and the special thing is that this decision also benefited the makers. The makers spent only 40 lakh rupees on the remake of Sita Aur Geeta and in return earned 7 times more. The film earned an impression of 3 crores at the domestic box office alone. However, as reported by Wikipedia, the film’s lifetime collection was over 19 crores.
The South remake of Sita Aur Geeta directed by Ramesh Sippy was titled ‘Ganga Manga’. The special thing is that this film was released in theaters in 1973, one year after the release of Sita Aur Geeta. That means the makers wasted no time in capitalizing on the success of the Dharmendra, Hema Malini and Sanjeev Kapoor starrer. After Ganga Manga, it was also remade in Tamil, titled ‘Vani Rani’. This film was released in 1974.
Actress Vanisari was seen in this. There is another interesting story associated with this film. The story goes that at the film’s success party, the film’s producer GP Sippy asked his son Ramesh Sippy to make another film with Dharmendra and Hema Malini, which should be an action film. After this, the talk about Sholay also started and finally the trio i.e. Dharmendra, Hema Malini and Sanjeev Kumar were seen in Sholay.
