Ceasefire between Israel and Hamas extended for 2 more days: Qatar

“The State of Qatar has announced that, as part of the ongoing mediation, an agreement has been reached on extending the humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip for an additional two days,” Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al Ansari said.

Qatar has been engaged in serious negotiations to establish and extend a cease-fire in Gaza, with the support of the United States and Egypt, during the ceasefire and a few weeks ago. which the arbitrators said was designed to be broad and expansive.

A total of 50 civilian hostages, women and children, were expected to be released by Hamas during the initial ceasefire. In exchange, 150 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel were to be released and humanitarian aid was allowed in Gaza.

During its first three days, the group released 39 Israeli hostages in exchange for 117 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons as part of an agreement between the two sides.

As a result of parallel talks led by the Gulf state, 17 Thais, a Filipino and a dual Russian-Israeli citizen have also been released by the Palestinian group.

Hamas attacked on October 7
This is the largest number slated for release since Hamas gunmen stormed Gaza’s military border on October 7, launching the deadliest attack in Israel’s history.

Israel says the attack killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and took more than 240 hostages, including elderly people and children.

In response, Israel launched a sustained bombing and ground offensive into Hamas-ruled Gaza, which the Hamas government says has killed 15,000 people, including thousands of children.
