Why the delay in implementation
Now the question is that when our constitution was drafted on 26 November 1949, then why was it implemented with a delay of two months i.e. on 26 January 1950? Why wait so long? The reason for this is the freedom struggle of 20 years ago. In fact, on January 26, 1930, the Congress raised the slogan of complete independence or complete Swaraj of the country. In memory of this we waited until 26 January 1950 for the implementation of the Constitution.
On 19 December 1929, at the Lahore session of the Congress, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru was elected as the new President of the Congress. Complete Swaraj was demanded on this day. It was decided that the country’s Independence Day would be celebrated on the last Sunday of January. The date was 26 January 1930. This demand for complete independence was announced on 26 January 1930. On this day, Pandit Nehru unfurled the tricolor flag on the bank of Ravi river in Lahore. Thus, January 26 was a very special day that we were looking forward to.
