Officials said they took stock of the progress and status of works related to regularization of unauthorized settlements and rehabilitation of slum dwellers under PM-UDAY and PMAY (Urban) respectively.
Saxena asked the officials to give a specific timeline on the full implementation of PM-UDAY, PMAY and DDA’s ‘land pooling’ policy.
The lieutenant governor was informed that the vagueness of the boundaries of unauthorized settlements, repeated extensions of cut-off dates and uncertainty in proposed slum clusters have kept the issue pending for long and finally led the Center to PM-UDAY in 2019. And PMAY schemes were to be made.
He said that soon after, due to the onset of the Covid pandemic, the work could not be carried out in full swing.
“The Lt. Governor expressed surprise and concern over the fact that the Act was in force in various forms since December 2006 and the matter was pending despite obstacles due to the pandemic,” an official said.
Saxena directed officials to come up with a concrete, time-bound action plan for registration, verification and subsequent regularization of unauthorized settlements and stressed that the process of doing so needs to be made easy and hassle-free.
He warned that any kind of negligence or corruption will not be tolerated.
The Lt. Governor stressed that all works should be completed at least one year before the maximum limit of 2026 provided in the Act recently passed by Parliament.
