The risk of cardiac arrest increases by 187 percent when taking anti-psychotic medication.
Among diabetics, the risk increased by 66 percent if they were taking antibiotics.
Antibiotic drugs may increase the risk of cardiac arrest: According to the World Health Organization, about 50 million people are suffering from diabetes. About 8 crore of them come from India. People who have diabetes have to take a variety of medications along with dietary restrictions. Along with this, for some common problems, generic medicines are also required from time to time. But a recent study found that people with type 2 diabetes are at increased risk of cardiac arrest if they take common medications. In cardiac arrest, the heart stops working. Death is certain if immediate medical intervention is not done. Researchers in the Netherlands found in their study that the risk of cardiac arrest increased by 50 percent among those taking antibiotics, anti-sickness and anti-psychotic drugs.
Effects of antibiotics, anti-sickness and anti-psychotic drugs
According to the Global Diabetes Community, studies have found that people with type 2 diabetes, with or without a history of heart disease, were less likely to have a cardiac arrest when they took antibiotics, anti-sickness and anti-psychotic drugs. Just increase. This research is very shocking because most people suffering from diabetes consume antibiotics. A previous study found that people who did not exercise, had high blood pressure or smoked had a higher risk of cardiac arrest. In the study, researchers collected health data on 650 people with type 2 diabetes and tracked their medication habits. All these people suffered cardiac arrest between 2010 and 2019.
Do not take antibiotics without doctor’s advice
The investigation found that 352 people already had symptoms of heart disease while 337 people had no heart-related problems. Apart from all this, the researchers also collected and examined the health data of 3230 people without diabetes. Now when all these results came out, it was found that the risk of cardiac arrest was much higher among those taking domperidone, macrolides, fluoroquinolones and haloperidol. According to the study, the risk of cardiac arrest increased by 187 percent among people who did not already have heart disease and took anti-psychotic medication. At the same time, among people with type 2 diabetes who took prokinetic drugs, the risk of cardiac arrest was 66 percent. The bottom line of this study was that if you suffer from type 2 diabetes, don’t self-medicate with antibiotics or depression medications. Consult a specialist doctor for this.
