Even before the release of Shahrukh Khan’s film, the director received a threat, a call from the underworld.

Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan are known as best friends in the film industry. Filmmaker Karan started his career as a director with ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ starring Shah Rukh Khan. Just like Jai Veeru set an example on the screen, Karan and Shah Rukh were always seen standing up for each other in real life too. In a recent interview to Mid Day, Karan recalled the days when he was shunned by everyone due to threats from the underworld. Karan recalled how Shah Rukh brought him out of the dark room where he had locked himself.

Why is Karan Johar scared?

Karan Johar revealed that he locked himself in a room during the premiere of his directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Haina. At that time, Shah Rukh supported him and gave him courage. She said, “I will never forget how Shahrukh pulled me out. He said, ‘I’m going to face a bullet fired at you… you stay right here.'” That’s when I realized that this is a relationship that is forever.

Karan Johar had earlier written about this in his autobiography ‘The Unsuitable Boy’. “The phone rang. My mother picked up the phone and it was a call from the underworld. A man’s voice said, ‘Your son is wearing a red T-shirt, I can see him now and if you release this film on Friday, we will shoot him.’ For some reason they didn’t want the film to be released on Friday, we don’t know why? Abu Salem was on the phone and my mother was shaking with fear. She hung up and ran to the door.”

Shahrukh Khan gave courage

Karan also wrote about Shah Rukh Khan’s reaction in the book. “Shah Rukh said, ‘What nonsense!’ He went in and pulled me out. He said, ‘I’m standing here in front of you. Let’s see who shoots you. I’m standing… right here.’ I said, ‘No, no, no, my mother was…’ He told my mother, ‘Nothing is going to happen. I am Pathan. Nothing can happen to me and nothing will happen to your son. She is my mother. Brother. As it is… nothing will happen to him.”
