First cafe run by disabled people opened in Supreme Court premises, CJI inaugurated it

The first cafe run by people with disabilities opened in the Supreme Court premises

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud along with other judges inaugurated the ‘Mitti Cafe’ on the premises of the Supreme Court of India today. The newly constructed cafe is run entirely by disabled employees. The cafe manager is blind, has cerebral palsy and is paralyzed. A small cultural program was organized on the occasion in which the differently abled performed. The national anthem was also sung in sign language on the occasion.

During the inauguration ceremony CJI requested everyone to come to the cafe and support this initiative. Mitti Café is run by an NGO that works with people with special needs. The non-profit organization provides employment opportunities to them.

There are already 35 cafes operating across India, including at Bengaluru airport and offices of various multinational companies. The NGO started its work in 2017 and created job opportunities for people with special disabilities.

According to their website, they have served more than 10 million meals since their inception and have started catering services in addition to gifting solutions. The cafe also claims to provide nutritious food to the poor.
