Former Indian opener and current pundit Gautam Gambhir believes that Mohammed Shami, not Jasprit Bumrah, will be India’s highest wicket-taker in World Cup 2023. Mohammad Shami has played 4 matches in this tournament so far in which he has taken 16 wickets with an average of 7 and a strike rate of 9.75. During a conversation with Sportskida, when Gambhir was asked who would take the most wickets in the World Cup 2023 between Mohammed Shami or Jasprit Bumrah, the former India all-rounder said, ‘It’s a tough question. I think Shami because the batsman doesn’t take much risk against Jasprit Bumrah. He is such a good bowler that the opposition team does not hit big shots against him. It often happens that your best bowler does not have many wickets.
He continued, ‘The reason behind this is that the opposition team is seen finishing their over. If you look at Jasprit Bumrah’s opening spell, no one is taking risks against him. There are many times when the best bowler of the team has a very good economy rate, but does not have many wickets to his account.

However, Gautam Gambhir called Jasprit Bumrah the team’s X factor and said that it was because of his pressure that Shami was getting so many wickets.
I think Shami will take more wickets in the World Cup because from my point of view the opposition team will look to attack Shami only because of Jasprit Bumrah. I still think Jasprit Bumrah is the X factor in the team. Because of him this Indian team is such a strong team. But Shami will have more wickets.
