Glenn Maxwell sets a world record, scoring the fastest century in World Cup history

New Delhi. Australia’s star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has scored the fastest century in the history of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Maxwell achieved this feat against Netherlands in the 24th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Right-handed batsman Maxwell scored a century in just 40 balls. During this time, he broke the world record of South Africa’s Eden Markram, who scored a record-breaking 49-ball century in the same World Cup.

Aiden Markram earlier scored a 49-ball century against Sri Lanka in the ongoing World Cup. Earlier, former Ireland batsman Kevin O’Brien had scored a 50-ball century against England in the World Cup in 2011. In 2015, Maxwell completed a 51-ball century against Sri Lanka. Former South Africa batsman AB de Villiers also scored a 52-ball century in the 2015 World Cup.

Glenn Maxwell was dismissed for 106 runs off 44 balls. During this he hit 9 fours and 8 sixes. Maxwell added 103 runs for the seventh wicket with Pat Cummins. Australia scored 399 for 8 on the back of David Warner (104) and Maxwell’s century.

Smith-Nile pair record broken
Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins added 103 runs for the seventh wicket, breaking the record of Steve Smith and Nathan Coulter-Nile. Nile and Smith put on a 102-run partnership for the seventh wicket against the West Indies in Nottingham in the 2019 World Cup. This is Australia’s record for the seventh highest participation at the World Cup or lower.

Maxwell equaled Ponting-Gilchrist in this matter
Glenn Maxwell hit 9 sixes in his world record century innings. During this he broke the record of 8-8 sixes held by Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting. Gilchrist hit 8 sixes against Sri Lanka in the 2007 World Cup while Ponting hit 8 sixes in a century against India in the 2003 World Cup.
