Government issues advisory to curb ‘deepfax’, tells social media companies

According to the statement, “The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued an advisory to all intermediary companies to ensure compliance with existing IT regulations.”

The advice is a result of discussions held by Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar with moderators. These notifications are particularly related to the growing concerns regarding the spread of false information with the help of AI and deepfakes.

The ministry in its advisory said that under the IT rules, users should be given clear and accurate information about the content that is not allowed. This should also be clearly explained to the user when he registers for the first time.

According to the advisory, digital platforms should ensure that users are informed about penal provisions such as the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the IT Act, 2000.

This will be the responsibility of the online forum

It shall be the responsibility of online platforms to prevent users from hosting, displaying, uploading, modifying, publishing, transmitting, storing, updating or sharing any information related to prohibited content on digital intermediaries. Make appropriate efforts.

Understand deepfakes like this

Deepfake means manipulating and misrepresenting content available on the internet. In this, digital manipulation is done by artificial intelligence to misrepresent or impersonate any person.

An attempt to target several celebrities

Recently, an attempt was made to target some film personalities with the help of DeepFax. Keeping in view the public concern spread by this, the government has issued an advisory in this regard.
