Indian women’s cricket team all-rounder Deepti Sharma on Saturday praised captain Harmanpreet Kaur and called her a ‘magical bowler’. Harmanpreet returned to India after taking two important wickets in the final session on the third day of the only Test cricket match against Australia. Australia dominated most of the third day but at the end of the day’s play they were 233 for 5 and had taken a lead of 46 runs. India scored 406 runs in the first innings and took a lead of 187 runs.

“Harry Di (Harmanpreet) has magic in his hands,” Deepti told reporters after the third day’s play ended. Whenever he comes to bowl, he definitely takes wickets.

“He is always ready to bowl,” he said. Everyone was bowling but we needed a magical bowler who could take wickets as their partnership stretched. Along with this we also managed to achieve rhythm.

Harmanpreet bowled Tahlia McGrath (73 off 177 balls, 10 fours) and then dismissed the dangerous-looking Alyssa Healy (32) lbw. Deepti, who scored 78 runs in India’s first innings, said early wickets will be important on the last day of the match.

He said, “Our aim will be to get their remaining 5 wickets early. The smaller the target we have, the better. The ball was lower on the third day compared to the first day. The bowlers should get help from the wicket on the last day.

Meanwhile, Australian all-rounder Ellis Perry said his team will aim to extend its lead to 200 runs. Asked what his team’s target would be on the final day, Perry said, “It depends on how much time is left in the match and how many runs we score.” But the amount of time we get to bowl is very important. “If we can get a lead of around 200 runs, that will keep us in the match,” he said.
